Sesame Rice is a quick and easy side dish for all your Asian cuisine. Just 15 minutes and 4 simple ingredients. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
This rice is delicious on it’s own, and I often make it to go along with a main dish. We love the sesame flavor and aroma. You can also use this instead of plain white rice in your rice bowls. Anything served on white rice would be better served on this sesame rice.
No matter what type of rice a dish calls for, I almost always cook with Jasmine rice. I usually have white and brown Jasmine rice in my pantry. It has a floral aroma and is slightly sweet. It is a long grain rice and I find that it cooks perfectly every time. Mix white, brown and red jasmine rice for a beautiful and colorful side dish.
What you need
White Jasmine rice
Salt
Green onions
Sesame oil
How to make Sesame Rice
Start with 1 1/2 cups of water in a medium sauce pan. Add the salt and bring to a boil. Next add the white Jasmine rice and give it a stir. Let the water come back to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cover and let simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, until all the water is absorbed. If your rice is undercooked, you can add 3 tablespoons of water and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
As the rice cooks, slice 3 or 4 green onions.
When the rice is tender and fully cooked, cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, green onions and sesame oil.
