Vanilla Sugar is a simple, yet delicious ingredient. Use it for baking, sprinkle it on fruit or stir it into hot tea. Vanilla sugar adds vanilla flavor and a few specs of vanilla seeds as well.
What you need to make Vanilla Sugar
Vanilla bean pods
Sugar
Whenever you scrape the seeds out of a vanilla bean pod for a recipe, keep the pod. There is still a lot of flavor in that pod. And some vanilla seeds as well. Put the vanilla bean pods into a large mason jar and fill with sugar. As the mixture sits, the sugar develops a wonderful flavor and aroma of vanilla. There will also be a few vanilla bean seeds in the sugar.
As you use vanilla beans, add pods to the jar of sugar. As you use the sugar, add additional sugar to refill the jar.
